Congratulations to veteran Phil Benwell who on Tuesday night (Dec 5th) played his 300th game for Grange at Largs Bay Reserve against Port Districts in a T20 game. What a wonderful servant he has been for the Dolphins for near on 20 years as a brilliant all-round stroke maker with bat in hand, medium paced bowler and a brilliant fieldsman, with over 6000 A Grade runs and 250 wickets as testimony to his fine ability and a brilliant outfield catch at Goodwood Oval in an A1 Final against Gepps Cross that ultimately help win us our sixth A Grade flag adding folklore to a great career at Dolphin Park. What was Glenelg DCC and Richmond/Clarence Park loss as his former teams has most certainly been a magnificent win for the Grange Cricket Club. It has been a pleasure to have him and his family in our community for this length of time. Well played Phil with 15 “flags” across various tournaments, let’s hope there is still more to come
He becomes the eleventh member of the elite 300 club joining Peter “Faggs” Faggotter , Ian “Spanner Clarke”, Graham “Swinging Billy” Billinger, Andrew “Pa” Pierson, Greg “have a chat” Wood, Malcolm “the amazing man of cricket” Starkey, Garry “Baggie” Bagshaw, Barry “Fryso” Fry, Kevin “Keggsie” Fry and Leigh “lethal” Iry.
